For the serious aficionado, Bear Family Records has released a 173 song, 6 CD boxed set containing all of the Easy Riders known recorded material. Accompanied by an LP-sized booklet, this set bridges the gap between the "early Weavers" and the Kingston Trio. Although most of us probably remember the hit song "Marianne", this boxed set of the same name not only brings back a lot of memories, but reveals a whole era of folk music history about which we probably knew little if anything. We may remember Frankie Laine's hit of "The Cry of the Wild Goose" and Dean Martin's hit of "Memories Are Made of This," but did we remember that these were both Easy Riders songs?

My interest in folk era music owes a lot to my interest in and love of history, not just the history of music, but history in general. I find this box set absolutely fascinating, and can't recommend it highly enough. Do yourself a favor. Make this box set one of your CD purchases this year, and if you can only afford one, this one should be it!
