Detailed Description
CHILD, CHILD CD
Erik had a chart-topping hit, "The Banana Boat Song," with the Tarriers in 1957, and appeared as a featured instrumentalist on numerous albums recorded during the fifties and sixties. When Pete Seeger left the Weavers to pursue his individual career, Erik took his place and recorded and sang with that group for four years. Following that he formed the Rooftop Singers and had a smash hit with "Walk Right In." In addition to his albums with the Weavers, he recorded two with the Tarriers, three with the Rooftop Singers and four solo albums. Four years ago, with Sid Hausman and Lynn Lucas, he recorded an album of Southwestern Country Music which was an amalgam of western and native musical traditions of the American Southwest. He's now recorded his first solo album in over thirty years and it's a real treat indeed. In one sense he's returned to his roots with more traditional material than he's performed in a long time, and his marvelous 5-string banjo playing is back! He's also updated his biggest hits of the past, including "The Banana Boat Song" and "Walk Right In" the latter of which has become the "Walk Right In Blues." But he's also turned in some new directions with songs with a social message. It's been a long wait, but is well worth it. The songs on the album are:
- Sunshine Baby
- With a Fie Fie
- Jay Gould's Daughter
- Child, Child
- A Place in the Hills
- Black Snake Shakies
- Far Through Memory Shines the Happy Hour (instrumental)
- Walk Right In Blues
- It Doesn't Matter at All If It Rains On Me
- A Cotton Eyed Joe
- Sail Away Odyssey (w/banjo)
- God knows She Ain't No Angel
- Tradewinds (instrumental)
- Banana Boat Song
