Detailed Description
Sean Bonniwell Close CD
We were saddened to learn at the end of 2011 that Sean Bonniwell, originally of the 60's folk group, The Wayfarers, had died of lung cancer. Then, just a few weeks later we learned of the CD release of his sole solo album, recorded in 1969 after his successful career as leader of the Music Machine, an act whose 1966 single, "Talk, Talk," was considered to be the most radical Top 40 single of the time.
In 1969, following the demise of The Bonniwell Music Machine, Sean Bonniwell recorded his one and only solo album under the moniker T. S. Bonniwell. Contrary to the punk rock of the Music Machine, on Close, Bonniwell croons deeply introspective and melancholy lyrics to delicate melodies accompanied with touches of flamenco, bossa nova, horns and strings. The effort was unsuccessful and in 1970 he entered a period of spiritual quest and internal soul-searching, grew a beard, sold everything he owned, and drove around the U.S. in a Volkswagen bus. As Bonniwell himself put it, he was a teenager of the 50s, a rock celebrity in the 60s, a guru in the 70s and a Christian from the 80s on. My life has paralleled the decades of American change.
