Detailed Description
The New Kingston Trio
The Very Best Of
CD

In 1967 Nick Reynolds, John Stewart and I disbanded The Kingston Trio. Musical tastes for the times had changed greatly and it just seemed the right thing to do. We all went our separate ways - Nick to Oregon to chill out, and John onto his successful solo career.

I spent a year recording and performing as a solo, with a short stint teamed up with Travis Edmonson (of Bud & Travis fame). But I soon realized that what I really wanted was to be part of a Trio again, so I set my sights on making that happen.

Living in Atlanta at the time, I had frequented a few bars that had live entertainment. I particularly liked a duo called Pat & Barbara (Pat Horine and Barbara King) and a folk duo called Richard & Jim (Richard Lockmiller and Jim Connor). In fact, I enjoyed both duos so much, I went to their shows often.

Eventually Jim & Richard broke up, so I approached Jim and asked him if he would be interested in joining me to form The New Kingston Trio. He was absolutely interested. A few days later I asked Pat the same thing and he too was interested.

I then had to ask my Kingston Trio partners Nick Reynolds and Frank Werber (who had been The Kingston Trio's manager) for permission to use the Kingston Trio name. They both agreed without hesitation, so in the latter part of 1968, in Atlanta, Georgia, Pat Horine, Jim Connor and I formed The New Kingston Trio.

Thus followed 4 years of a completely new direction for me, with two new partners and a whole bunch of new material. It was great. I was back in a Trio again and having a blast.

As The New Kingston Trio, Pat, Jim and I recorded some really good stuff. And because I have had so many requests over the years to release it, I rounded up everything I had in my archives to make this CD, The Best Of The New Kingston Trio.

Aloha,
Bob Shane
