Detailed Description
Erik Darling I'd Give my life: From Washington Square ToCarnegie Hall - A Journey By Folk Music. Book "Emerging from Greenwich Village's burgeoning folk scene of the mid-fifties, Erik Darling pulled off the impossible. During an era when Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Chuck Berry and the Platters dominated A.M. radio, his folk trio, The Tarriers, scored a Top-4 hit in 1956 with "The Banana Boat Song." Besides fueling a brief national mania for calypso, the Tarriers laid the foundation for the Kingston Trio and the many folk groups that followed. After four years with the Weavers, Darling formed the Rooftop Singers, an innovative folk/jazz trio that topped the charts with "Walk Right In" and introduced twelve-string guitars to popular music.
More suited to introspection than self-promotion, Darling maintained a deep-seated integrity and restless curiosity that stands in sharp contrast to the usual modus operandi of the American entertainment business. Looking beyond the hit records, concert performances and colorful personalities, this book documents Darling's journey towards self-discovery."
