Detailed Description
Keith Richards Review.... Rock On! by Tim West

Keith Richards is a rock icon -- the epitome of the rock 'n roll outlaw. It was for good reason that the actor Johnny Depp patterned his performance in
"Pirates of the Caribbean" after Richards, or "Keef" as he is known to his fans.

It is no exaggeration to say that guitarist Richards is the heart and soul of The Rolling Stones, the longest-running band in rock history. To be sure, Mick Jagger is the famed vocalist and jet setter of the band, but Richards is truly the bedrock of the Stones.

Much has been written about the Stones, for print and, in recent years, for DVDs. "Keith Richards: Under Review" is the most recent effort. Rock documentaries are sometimes disappointing, and I've read a great deal about the Stones and its band members, so it was with some skepticism that I viewed this latest offering. But I was pleasantly surprised at how good this piece really is. It puts
a focus on Richards and enhances that with performance clips and interviews that are really on-point. In addition to interviews with rock writers, there are valuable segments with the likes of Dick Taylor, who performed with the band in the early days. There are also some great moments with Wolf Marshall, a guitar coach, who illustrates how Richards plays, including the famed open G tuning
Keef learned from Ry Cooder. This is something I've never seen on other Stones documentaries.

The Stones' albums and Richards' underappreciated but excellent solo work are also dealt with on an album-by-album basis. There are a few extras including what is billed as the "hardest Keith Richards interactive quiz in the world ever" which it may well be -- especially since I've never seen another.

If you're a die hard Stones fan, "Keith Richards: Under Review" is a must. If you'd like to learn more about the guitarist who I think is the most important
Stone, this is a good place to start.
