Detailed Description
Forty years ago—just after the explosive Monterey Pop Festival in June '67—legions of young people made the pilgrimage to San Francisco's famed Haight Ashbury district, ground zero for the youthful American counterculture revolution that was a' changing the times. The Bay Area music scene was rife with spectacular talent—including the pillars of the Grateful Dead, Santana, and the Jefferson Airplane—and legions of other acts that brought the city's expansive sonic vibes to national, and ultimately global, prominence. Just as aspiring hippies and free spirits flocked to partake of the Golden State's Golden Age, so did musical talent from far and wide, including Texan Janis Joplin and Chicago's Steve Miller. The glory days of the San Francisco sound came to define the era overall, and it's never been explored more fully than on this four-disc tribute featuring superstars and lesser-known talents alike.
