Detailed Description
AT GERDES FOLK CITY CD
This is a document of the birth of the legend known as Doc Watson. Before his triumphant appearances at the '63 and '64 Newport Folk Festivals and before his acclaimed self-titled debut album on Vanguard Records, Doc was invited to perform at Gerdes Folk City. His performances at this tiny club in New York, during a two week stand in late '62 and another two week stand in early '63 were his first solo professional appearances. Highlights include guest artists the Greenbriar Boys and Doc taking an extremely rare turn on the mandolin. Traditional, bluegrass, folk and American music in general continues to feel the shockwaves started by Doc at these landmark concerts.
