Founding Member of America Dies

Dan Peek, one of the three men who formed the band “America” as teenagers in the late 60s, passed away at his home in Farmington, MO Sunday, July 24th, at the age of 60. Peek sang high harmonies on such hits as “Ventura Highway” and “A Horse With No Name.”
Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley, the two remaining members of the band marking its 40th Anniversary this year, expressed their sadness at the news of Dan’s passing. Referring to the early days of the band’s history, Bunnell remarked “It was a joyous time for the three of us, full of excitement and laughter. We created lasting music together and experienced a life that we could never have imagined. Dan was an equal and integral part of that early history, and I have never forgotten the good times we spent making that music and learning about life together.” Finally, he and Beckley offered their sincere condolences and expressed “May Dan rest in peace, and his memory be cherished forever.”
On June 21, 2011 it was announced that America was among a new group of entertainment professionals to have been selected to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012. A date has not yet been chosen for this star.
Eerily coincidental, America’s much anticipated new CD “Back Pages” was released Tuesday, July 26th. Until now, America had never created a project that paid tribute to their favorite songs and songwriters. We offer this new release in the spirit of celebrating Dan Peek’s contributions to America’s great and prevailing success.
AMERICA – Back Pages (As shown above in featured products)
Their new CD is a rich, joyous collection of a dozen glimmering interpretations, with a song list stretching back in time to the British Invasion of the 60s (The Zombies – “Time of the Season”) to new standards from Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Brian Wilson, Jimmy Webb and more. Songs include “America,” “Woodstock,” “Sailing to Philadelphia,” “Something in the Way She Moves” and the title track “My Back Pages.” This delightful new album offers a fresh take on timeless songs and proves that, for all of their own rich history, America still has the ability to surprise and enchant us.
